Simply Steve's Food Truck

I discovered another vegan option at a food truck on the streets of downtown Minneapolis. The grilled portabella sandwich as Simply Steve's is worth checking out. Based on a quick scan of their Facebook page, it looks like the menu might change regularly.

The Lowbrow

Checked out The Lowbrow for the first time. I really like the fried tofu sandwich. While there aren't many vegan items on the menu, I appreciate that they clearly identify the vegan items (one entree, one "snack" and one salad on the lunch/dinner menu). Recommended!

Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale - 2013

Ethique Nouveau appears to be the only official Twin Cities-area participant in this year's Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale. Check it out on April 20, 2013!

My day included sweet & sour stir fry (with tofu) at Amazing Thailand. Ask for the vegan menu!

Mill City Vegan Visits St. Louis

Here are the vegan highlights from a quick visit that I recently made to St. Louis.

Pi Pizzeria. This cool pizza place has multiple locations in the St. Louis area. I checked out the Del Mar Loop location and enjoyed a thin crust with Daiya cheese.

Crazy Bowls and Wraps. Vegan-friendly fast food with vegan items clearly labelled. I went with the zesty beans over rice. You can order brown rice, which is always a nice bonus.

I Scream Cakes. This was the best vegan find on the trip, and we came across it accidentally while simply exploring the city. I enjoyed a cupcake with a scoop of chocolate-covered ice cream on top. It was fantastic! They had several vegan options. Note that the ice cream shop is right next to bakery with vegan items, but it happened to be closed when we dropped by. A sign indicated that they had a power outage.

Vegan Doc Martens at the Mall of America

On my last visit to the Mall of America, I noticed a Dr. Martens store that I had no idea existed. Is this new??? In my youth I would have scoffed at the idea of buying Doc Martens at a mall. But there's a vegan section! And why pay for shipping to get cool, vegan shoes or boots when you can find them here? And we still don't pay a sales tax for clothing in this state. The store has eight styles of vegan boots and shoes on display. But that's not all. There are a few different styles of canvas Doc Martens as well, located in a different part of the store. I must admit, I own three pairs of canvas Docs. They're REALLY comfortable and they're significantly less expensive than the faux leather varieties. I suspect I'll be back again to add to my extensive collection of vegan footwear in the near future.

World Street Kitchen

I made my first visit to World Street Kitchen's new digs on Lyndale Avenue. I was thrilled to see that the menu clearly indicates which items can be made vegan (as well as gluten-free). I'd recommend making sure they know that you want your meal made vegan as the menu offers the following disclaimer: "Let us know of any food related allergies, we use soybean oil, soy sauce, fish sauce, peanuts and other common allergens in our food, we don’t list everything on the menu." I chose the charred squash and shiitake mushroom tacos. They're excellent! Will return again soon.

Pizza Luce Brunch

I convinced myself to stray from the Apple Quinoa Cakes for brunch at the Richfield Pizza Luce. No regrets! The Tomato Florentine is excellent. Mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, along with tapenade and hollandaise sauce over a couple of English muffins and hash browns!

Vegan sliders!

Look what I came across in the frozen foods section at the Target near Southdale! I tried 'em tonight and they're quite good. Has anyone seen these at other Twin Cities area locations? Gardein seems to be producing rather popular vegan products these days.
